Bikini Hostel update

The relocation of the homeless residents of the Bikini Hostel began this weekend and should be completed very soon. This news is welcomed for the neighborhood and for the homeless people who were placed in this unsuitable environment with rooms cramped with bunk beds to the ceilings, meals provided in Styrofoam container drop offs from Miami-Dade Human Services, no real services to assist them with their situations and no place for them to gather but outside with extreme temperatures and humidity. You may have noticed that the police car that was stationed outside the Bikini Hostel 24/7 is no longer there. It is expected that the sale of the Bikini Hostel to the Developer for 1250 West Ave. will occur in September.

We also understand that closings of the bulk purchases of units at 1250 West Ave. began this week and should be completed within the next two weeks. This is welcomed news for the owners at 1250 who have been facing uncertain financial futures due to the conditions of the building and the prospect of significant special assessments. Renters in the building are being provided with generous relocation packages thanks to the efforts on Commissioner Fernandez. We encourage residents to reach out to us if they encounter any problems with relocation.

We will continue to monitor the progress at 1250 West Ave. and the Bikini Hostel and provide updates as they become available.
