Project Update: West Ave. Phase II - May 2026
What's Happening
The West Avenue Phase II project continues to advance, with several key milestones reached and new construction activities beginning across the corridor. Below is a summary of recent progress, upcoming work, and coordination efforts that may affect travel, utilities, and private property connections.
Lincoln Court Sewer Installation — The contractor has completed the sanitary sewer line installation on Lincoln Court, and the Lincoln Court Pedestrian Bridge reopened on May 7.
16 Street Sanitary Sewer Work — Beginning Monday, May 11, crews will begin installing sanitary sewer infrastructure on 16 Street. Early activities include temporary sanitary bypass lines from Bay Road to Alton Court and underground bypass infrastructure at West Avenue and 16 Street. Local traffic will remain open, though temporary detours may be required and residents are encouraged to allow additional travel time. On site personnel will help maintain safe traffic flow. Once the bypass system is active, sewer installation will proceed in phases: west toward Bay Road, east from the intersection, and north along West Avenue. Each phase includes multiple private property connections, and affected properties will be notified as schedules are confirmed. This work is expected to take approximately 3–4 weeks.
Water Main Relocation — Early next week, crews will relocate a section of the water main on the east side of 16 Street near the water quality well. The project team will notify impacted properties as construction schedules and impacts are confirmed next week.
Regulatory Coordination with DERM — Several properties were recently identified with unpermitted drainage connections requiring regulatory review. The City of Miami Beach and the project team are working with DERM (Miami-Dade County’s environmental regulatory agency) to establish a procedure for addressing these connections. This coordination is expected to take 6–8 weeks and is currently the primary factor influencing ongoing work sequencing. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
