ANNOUNCEMENTS: Next SoBe West Community Meeting/Commission Meeting Updates

Dear SoBe West Residents, Local Business Owners,

Important reminder West Ave Phase 2 extended construction is having a challenging impact on our Lincoln Rd. businesses. Please come out and support whenever possible to help them weather the prolonged construction impact on their businesses.

Canopy Park Homeless Update

After ongoing reports of aggressive homeless issues in Canopy Park, SoBe West reached out to Neighborhood Resource Officer Rodriguez for assistance. On Tuesday, she had a MBPD Police car positioned next to the park. In addition, she coordinated a meeting on Thursday with SoBe West and Floridian Condo President to meet with MBPD Homeless Liaison officers Lt. Lemus and Sgt. Berrian as well as our newly assigned Park Rangers Mr. Aponte and Mr. Pacheco.

SoBe West, Floridian Board President, Homeless Liaison Officers, and Park Rangers at Canopy Park meeting about Canopy Park Homeless Issue.

Below are additional safety measures to assist in our efforts to address residents concerns. Thank you Officer Rodriguez for your prompt response.

·        A Park Ranger will be stationed in Canopy Park daily from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

·        Miami Beach Police Department officers will patrol the area three times daily outside Park Ranger hours.

·        The Homeless Outreach Team will increase monitoring and engagement efforts in and around the park.

·        A security camera has been secured for installation once equipment becomes available following FIFA-related deployments.

·        Requests are also being made for permanent security camera installation.

Residents are encouraged to contact Miami Beach Police Department Non-Emergency Dispatch at 305-673-7900 or call 911 in the event of an emergency. Any reports received by the office will be shared with Officer Rodriguez for appropriate follow-up.

Additional Neighborhood Updates:

For buildings having issues with FPL, you may contact our area representative Lillian K. Sanchez, Area Engineer for Miami Beach Lillian.Sanchez@fpl.com Work: (305)-794-2580

There is additional positive news for our neighborhood. For several months, SoBe West has been working with Commissioner Magazine and his aide, Luis Atencio, to secure an elevated crosswalk in front of The Floridian leading into Canopy Park. Installation is anticipated within the next three months. Thank you Commission Magazine and Luis for your ongoing efforts here.

Progress is also being made toward a permanent four-way stop at 6th Street and West Avenue with the support of State Representative Vicki Lopez and the Miami Beach Transportation Department.

Additionally, representatives from SoBe West recently met onsite with Parks Department staff to discuss park maintenance and landscaping improvements. Several new plantings have already been installed with more to come, additional diseased vegetation is being removed, and fresh mulch is being added throughout the park.

Thank you SoBe West board members Stephan Ginez, Nancy Duke, and Valerie Navarette for your steadfast efforts working with MB CIP (Capital Improvement Projects) and RicMan Construction for the ongoing West Ave Phase 2 project. Thank you Commissioner Fernandez for your ongoing biweekly West Ave Phase 2 resident walks 11AM every other Thursday. SoBe West was informed that CIP and RicMan have come to agreement to address the DERM certification and begin testing Lincoln Ct and Bay Rd storm drain pipes found connected to the city’s storm system. In addition, installation of large concrete storm drains in front of the Gaythering will begin on July 6th and will continue working towards the bay until that is completed.

Together, we can continue making a positive difference and improving the quality of life in our neighborhood.  Hope you all are enjoying the FIFA games and festivities and we wish everyone in our community a happy and safe 250th 4th of July.
